Respect and assimilation

As age grows on me I see things I could not understand as a young man.

The natives that lived here prior to the arrival of the Europeans had culture, laws and respect for other tribes. Like us they had renegades that did not want to follow the rules.

We the Europeans distroyed their culture, their history and their livelihood. We put them on reservations to control them and continued to destroy their culture, language and history.

The black man was enslaved and sold by his neighbors. They were purchased by many different countries as slave labor. Not just here in the USA!

Once they were "freed" after the Civil War they built communities apart from their white neighbors and were quite successful. They had respect for each other and their white neighbors.

Someone decided they needed to be integrated into our society and didn't pay any attention the failures of the assimilation of the native Americans.

Somewhere in time we lost respect for our neighbors of color or did they lose respect for us?

The Spaniards assimilated and destroyed many civilizations and cultures. Possibly we are following their lead !

Respect is earned! One of the definitions of respect is: due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights or traditions of others. The other is feeling of deep admiration for someone elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements.

The door of respect swings both ways. You must show the other person you have due regard for their life.
There are several movements in our country today that do not understand respect.

It is all one way, bow down to my demands or I'll destroy and pillage your homes, business and life.

All sides have made major mistakes I think if you put things in pespective the percentages are really small. Which in turn makes certain movements divisive and disrespectful. Think about it!

Protest, Vandalism or Insurrection?

Vandalism, Insurrection or Protest?

What defines the difference? Does mob rule justify destruction of other people's property? Is mob rule a valid protest or the start of an insurrection.? Russia 1917 or China 1949.

He who is the victor writes the history books. Those who write the history books often lie by omission. The main objective is to present the "facts" in a manner which supports the prevailing social and political agenda. We seldom hear the whole story.

If you disrespect the uniform, does that make all police offices villains? If you remove all record of the past will it change the present?

Some have said if you do not know your history you are doomed to repeat your mistakes.

With massive numbers of illegal immigrants it is impossible to maintain respect for the law of the land. They had no respect for the laws when they illegally entered this country. Their actions are feeding a general distrust of law enforcement. This is what their children learn from their parents.

The feeling of mistrust grows like a cancer on society and the rabble rousers are feeding off the insecurity bred by the actions of a few.

Ten percent of the general population is not worth the powder it would take to blow them all to Hell.

Is this ten percent the true picture of our society?

I have been the only white man visible in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods and was welcomed by the neighbors. I did not greet my neighbors with what some blacks call the "attitude", I greeted them with a smile and a handshake.

I built trust and mutual friendship and we truly enjoyed our neighborhood.

Is it possible that the police are being greeted like they are the enemy?

The lack of trust breeds contempt on both sides, strange that we have sides when we should be working towards a common goal. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
